This policy explains how belian.earth handles personal data. We keep things minimal: we collect only what we need, we don't sell or share your data with third parties for marketing, and you can delete your data at any time.

Who we are

belian.earth is the data controller for personal data collected through this website.

What data we collect

When you sign up to our mailing list we collect:

• Your email address (required)
• Your name (optional, only if you choose to provide it)
• The date and time you subscribed (consent timestamp)
• The IP address you subscribed from (consent record)
• The exact wording of the consent statement you agreed to

We collect this information only when you actively submit the sign-up form and tick the consent box. We do not collect personal data from visitors who simply browse the site, beyond what is described in the "Cookies and analytics" section below.

Why we collect it

We use your email address to send you updates about our work on carbon market baselining, independent reference area selection, and related research. We collect the consent timestamp, IP, and consent text as proof that you opted in, in case we ever need to demonstrate compliance with data protection law.

The legal basis for processing your data is your explicit consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and EU GDPR Article 6(1)(a)).

Double opt-in

After you submit the sign-up form, we send a confirmation email with a link. We only add you to our active mailing list once you click that link. If you don't click it, no further emails are sent and we eventually remove the pending record.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal suppression record (your email address and the fact that you unsubscribed) so that we don't accidentally re-add you. You can ask us to delete this record entirely — see "Your rights" below.

Who we share your data with

We use EmailOctopus (a UK company, with subscriber data hosted in the EU) as our email service provider. EmailOctopus processes your data on our behalf under a data processing agreement. They do not use your data for their own purposes.

We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with any other third parties for marketing, advertising, or any other purpose.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct any inaccurate or incomplete data
• Delete your data (the "right to be forgotten")
• Port your data — receive a copy in a common machine-readable format
• Object to processing or withdraw consent at any time
• Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

To exercise any of these rights, email info@belian.earth. We will respond within one calendar month. The fastest way to stop receiving emails is the unsubscribe link in the footer of every email we send.

Cookies and analytics

Essential cookies. We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep you logged in to protected pages (such as the partner portal) when you choose to log in. These are required for those features to work and are not used for tracking.

Analytics cookies (consent-based). We use Google Analytics to count page views and understand which content visitors find useful. Analytics cookies are set only if you click "Accept" on the cookie banner that appears on your first visit. If you click "Decline", no analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is collected. Google Analytics may collect your IP address (handled by Google), the pages you visit, the referring site, and basic device and browser information.

Changing your choice. To change your cookie choice later, clear the website data for belian.earth in your browser settings. The cookie banner will reappear on your next visit and you can choose again.

What we don't use. Beyond the consent-based Google Analytics described above, we do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, retargeting cookies, or any other tracking technology.

International transfers

Subscriber data held by EmailOctopus is hosted within the EU. Google Analytics may transfer aggregated, anonymised data outside the UK and EU under standard contractual clauses; this only applies if you have accepted analytics cookies.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated by email to current subscribers.
